2016
A big thank-you to this year’s Active Team for all their hard work and best wishes to all the boys and girls in 6th class as they start secondary school.
Active Week 2016
Last week was Active Week here at school and the sun shone for the whole week.
We started most days with a run on the All Weather Pitch and on Wednesday, we were part of the 2,500,120 participants who pledged to run for Global Running Day. Well done, everyone.
We had lots of events over the week: wheel-barrow and sack races, sprints and hula-hoop races, and a whole school team relay race involving almost 100 assorted balls! There was a basket-ball tournament for the senior room, soccer games for everyone in 1st to 6th and a scavenger hunt for all. We had puc and cic fada competitions, a crossbar challenge and penalty shots. Siobhan came for our GAA training and some teddy bears were seen picnicing in the garden! We had a great school tour at Navan Fire Station and Causey Farm, where we met lots of animals, completed an obstacle course and ‘bog-hopped’. The final event was a day spent skipping with Mark and we all learned some fancy new skips.
Well done to everyone on making the week so enjoyable and a special word of congratulations to our two sports people of the week.

GAA
Siobhan, our favourite football coach is back to help us all improve our football skills. We will have 3 coaching sessions with her, then the children from the senior room will take part in a blitz at Rathkenny GAA pitch.

Are you up for the challenge?
We’ve just finished our second round of a ‘Beat your own score: Keepy Uppy/Bounce the Ball’ challenge. Some brilliant scores were recorded. Keep practising for the next round!

Swimming
We’ve just finished 7 weeks of swimming at Aura, Navan. For our Junior Infants, it was their first time swimming with the school and they all really enjoyed it. Thanks to all the staff at Aura for looking after us so well.

Welcome Visitors
In February, some of the girls from Rathkenny GFC came to visit us and show us their trophies.

January 2016
Our Active Team wasted no time in getting back to business and organised a ‘Happy New Year’ run on our first day back to school. They also up-dated the Senior room games rota. Hopefully everyone will enjoy the new time table.

November 2015
The children from Ms Marry’s room started ABC (Agility, Balance, Co-ordination) training with Dudley Farrell last Wednesday. There are three training sessions in this programme and they should run over the next two weeks (weather permitting)
October 2015
October has just started and already we’ve had a pretty busy active calendar.
Our new Active Team has been picked and we think they are going to do a great job.
We have just finished 4 athletic training sessions with our visiting coaches and everyone received a certificate for participating.
Gaelic football training has started for the whole school with Siobhan.
Our new active flag team have devised a lunchtime rota, take a look..

Well done to the Active Team for the great mix of games. We think it’s going to work really well.
We’ve had a ‘Puc Fada’ and a ‘Cic fada’ competition in the senior room to coincide with the All Ireland Finals and the pitch has seen some exciting games of football at break times!
Look at our yard
Our yard has been given a ‘Make-over’ and all the children are really delighted with it’s new look!
We’ve been putting it to good use
We’ve had a gardening evening which was very well attended by both children and parents. Lots of hard work was done on the night and our garden is in pretty good shape. A great big ‘thank-you’ to everyone who came out to help. We’ve continued the good work in school and planted lots of spring bulbs, herbs and even some grass seed.
We’re also keeping a close eye on the Rugby World Cup Scores.
And all these children regularly walk to school… aren’t they brilliant!
September 2015

Already we have had some early morning runs, a ‘puc fada’ competition in the senior room and our first of four sessions with visiting athletic coaches. Gaelic football is due to start soon with Siobhan and we will also decide on our new active team…..check back here soon for more details!
